What Should I Know About Nursing in the Navy?
I want to become a nurse. As silly as this may sound, it's a burning passion.
I am an Army brat and have spent more than 13 years over seas in Europe and I can not imagine a life living in one place. Though I could be a traveling nurse easily, I can't imagine myself living in one country.
So what do I need to know?
I'm concerned most of all about the ASVABs.
When I took them and went to the Army recruiter, I was told I didn't qualify to be a nurse.
What is a qualifying score?
I know I should talk to an actual recruiter instead of asking here but, I will not be able to go right away and want to get a slight heads up.
What sorts of questions (while I'm at it) should I ask the recruiter in regard to this field?
I love the military though I may not always agree with the Political motif's of our men and women in Congress.
Please no bashing. =/
To be a nurse in the military you have to be an RN with a bachelors degree in nursing.
The ASVAB is broken down into different knowledge areas, general, mechanical, electrical and administrative. That's for the Air Force. The Army and Navy break it down slightly differently.
For the Army you need a 95 in aptitude area ST.
For the Navy you need a 146 in VE+MK+GS.
For the Air Force you need a 44 in the General area.
You'll have to see each recruiter to see how your scores convert. You may be able to retake the ASVAB to improve your scores, but then you have to stick with the latest scores.
You may not qualify to be a medic. If you still want to join the military look at some other jobs too.
