Can a player score a run in baseball without actually touching home plate?
This is directly concerning the World Series game 4 tonight... The Philadelphia player charged through the catcher, and the catcher dropped the ball. However, the base-runner NEVER TOUCHED HOME PLATE!
How is this not an automatic out?
It's not an out since he was never tagged with the ball. The Yankees would have to appeal the play before the next pitch and then he'd only be out if the umpire saw the runner not touch the plate.
There are no automatic outs in baseball.
