what is a good way to make a fake 'gem' for a craft project?
I need to make a 'ruby' a little bigger than a chicken egg, but it can be a half globe or an oval, doesn't have to be an egg shape, for a craft project. Needs to be out of something soft enough to carve into but hard enough to feel hard to the touch, no jello like stuff. Ideally it would be atleast semi transparent so it have that gem look to it. Any suggestions on how to make such a faux gemstone?
