In the old days, before refrigeration, would people have drank champagne at room temperature?
Yes, I know that people could chill things using ice cut from ponds during the winter but what if that was not available, would they have drank it at room temperature?

Interesting question, I've never thought about it before. Seeing as how champagne was traditionally the drink of royalty, they probably did have access to ice. Then there is also the fact that wines are cellared at lower temperatures, so they would be naturally chilled...to a point at least.
